The importance of water and proper hydration
Have you ever felt weak or tired and lethargic on a hot day and then you drink a glass of water and it refreshes you and perks you up? That is because water makes up 60% of the adult human body, the brain and the heart are composed of 70%+ water, the lungs are 80% water, the skin 60% water, the kidneys and muscles around 80% water and even the bones are composed of around 30% water. Amongst the roles it plays is to help the nerves in your body communicate and if this is lacking the brain function will be diminished and brain cell dehydration can cause mental illness and even chronic nerve pain such as arthritis.
Lung hydration is considered a significant factor in respiratory diseases. Sometimes the most dramatic results can be obtained in asthma and chronic bronchitis with simple rehydration.
Dehydration is a major producer of stress in the body and alters the balance of the amino acids (the building blocks of the body) This will allow for DNA errors during cell division which can cause diseases.
Water is also required for the distribution of sodium, potassium and calcium that assist in skeletal muscle contraction and relaxation to be transported within the muscle fiber. When the body’s tissues are dehydrated free radicals are produced. Effective hydration removes free radicals faster than any other therapy. Taking supplements to reduce free radicals is ineffective when the body is dehydrated because the supplement cannot work effectively. A fully hydrated body may reduce the need for antioxidant supplements.
